Asymmetries in Heavy Meson Production from Light Quark Fragmentation

We discuss the possibility of the asymmetry in D−/D+ production, from π− beams, being a direct consequence of the properties of the light quark fragmentation function into heavy mesons. The main features of the asymmetry, as a function of xF , are easily described. An integrated sum-rule for the D−,D+ difference, is presented. Predictions for the asymmetry, in B meson production, are given. In ...

Bc meson production at hadron colliders by heavy quark fragmentation.

We present a reliable estimate on the production rate of Bc mesons in 1S and 2S states in the large transverse momentum region at hadronic colliders using heavy quark fragmentation functions derived within the framework of perturbative QCD. We also present the transverse momentum distribution for the Bc mesons. The production rate is large enough for the Bc mesons to be identified at the Tevatr...

THE ROLE OF QUARK POLARIZATION IN HEAVY QUARK FRAGMENTATION

We calculate the exact fragmentation functions for c and b quark fragmentation taking into account the spin orientation of the initial heavy quark in the form of analytical and rather simple expressions. Our calculations show that spin orientation may have an important effect on the fragmentation spectrum. This effect is more striking in the cases of c ?D, D*; c? ? , ? , and ?B , B *.

Heavy-quark Production in the Target Fragmentation Region Heavy-quark Production in the Target Fragmentation Region

Fixed-target experiments permit the study of hadron production in the target fragmentation region. It is expected that the tagging of speci c particles in the target fragments can be employed to introduce a bias in the hard scattering process towards a speci c avour content. The case of hadrons containing a heavy quark is particularly attractive because of the clear experimental signatures and ...

Pseudoscalar and Vector Meson Production in Nn Collisions *

Heavy meson production in nucleon-nucleon collisions is discussed within a meson exchange model of hadronic interactions, paying special attention to the basic dynamics that determine the behavior of the cross sections near the threshold energy. The pp → ppφ reaction is discussed as an example of the production of vector mesons in N N collisions. For the pseudoscalar me-son production, results ...

Heavy Vector Meson Production at Hera

Representing the H1 and ZEUS collaborations Recent results from the HERA experiments H1 and ZEUS on the exclusive production of heavy vector mesons V in ep collisions, i.e. the reaction ep ! eV p, are reviewed. The new measurements 1 include photoproduction of J== at larger photon-proton centre-of-mass energy W than previously, more precise data on J== electroproduction and (2S) photoproduction...
